About Tiger Airways

Tiger Airways

With low cost carriers being one of the main trends in travelling both internationally and domestically, Singapore itself have quite a few low cost carriers and one of these carriers are the well known Tiger Airways based in the Changi Airport of Singapore.

Being the first airline to operate at the newly opened Budget Terminals located at Singapore Changi Airport, Tiger Airways was actually incorporated on December 2003 and Tiger Airways first launched it sales on the 31st of August, 2004. There are quite a few shareholders for Tiger Airways though however, Singapore Airlines Limited is the largest stake holder (49%) with other stake holders such as Indigo Partners LLC (24%), Irelandia Investments Limited (16%) and as well as Singapore's investment arm, the Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd (11%). One of the major aims of Tiger Airways is to be able to have the newest fleets amongst other low cost carriers which is why currently, Tiger Airways operates 6 Airbus A320 aircraft where 8 other new Airbus A320 will take deliveries until the year 2007. Also in the near future, Tiger Airways has announced that the company is aiming to expand the current number of fleets to 20 planes by the year 2010.

Tiger Airways operates a wide range of different routes and destinations where some of the routes are previously owned by the world renowned Singapore Airlines (SIA). Some of these routes and destinations include places in countries such as Australia (Darwin), China (Guangzhou, Haikou and Shenzhen), Macau SAR, Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Krabi and Phuket), Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City), Indonesia (Padang), Philippines (Manila) and of course, Singapore itself. Also, aside from these routes, Tiger Airways also offers daily flights between two of the destinations which are both Macau and as well as Manila (Clark).

One of the common trends of low cost carriers is that, most of the flight tickets can be bought and reserved through internet itself. The same goes for Tiger Airways where the ticket reservation and price enquiries can all be found at the main homepage ( http://www.tigerairways.com/home/ ). Just like any other low cost carriers across the world, in order to get the cheapest possible fares between destinations, it is advisable to that bookings are made as early as possible prior to the departure date.
