About Singapore Polytechnic

The Singapore Polytechnic which is currently located nearby to the Dover MRT Station at Dover is known to be the first polytechnic education institution which was established at Singapore at the year 1954. Currently, although the Singapore Polytechnic is located at Dover, it is not the location where the Singapore Polytechnic was first established. In truth, during the establishment of Singapore Polytechnic, the campus was situated at Prince Edward Road until the year 1978 before it was relocated. Today, the Singapore Polytechnic campus holds around 16500 students and this number is still gradually increasing.

As mentioned earlier, the Singapore Polytechnic was first established in the year 1954 and until today, it remained as one of the most renowned education institutions as the Singapore Polytechnic is widely known to be a top quality institution. In addition to that, based on internal belief of the Singapore Polytechnic, it is said that the Singapore Polytechnic produces better quality students when compared to other education institution such as Anglo-Chinese Junior College, National Junior College, Victoria Junior College, Hwa Chong Junior College and Raffles Junior College or even the NUS High School of Math and Science. Since the establishment of the Singapore Polytechnic at the year 1954, the Singapore Polytechnic we see now today has already accumulated a strong base of 130,000 alumni where the majority of these graduates (alumni) are now famous individuals doing extremely well in their related fields such as business, engineering or computing.

Currently, the Singapore Polytechnic offers a wide variety of courses which include courses in business, computer, engineering, maritime studies, multimedia, optometry and as well as technology. The polytechnic courses which are offered in the Singapore Polytechnic will eventually be lead into Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Specialist Diplomas, and Certificate Awards are actually conducted by seven different and independent academic schools. These seven schools include School of Business, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, School of Design and the Environment, School of Media and Info-Communications Technology, the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and as well as the Singapore Maritime Academy. Aside from these seven academic schools, there are also another three academic departments in the Singapore Polytechnic where these three academic departments are known as Department of Educational and Staff Development, Department of Language and Communication and also Department of Mathematics and Science. Until today, the Singapore Polytechnic offers a variety of courses up to 62 different types of diplomas.

The vision and mission of the Singapore Polytechnic is to educate the students so that the graduates can be highly competent, innovative and versatile, imbued with sound values and committed to life long learning. Today, it can be seen that the Singapore Polytechnic is living up to the motto as the polytechnic has produced a great number of highly skilled graduates which are recognized world wide.
