About Singapore Employment Pass

In order for a foreign national to work legally within the country of Singapore, the foreign national will be required to be in possession of a valid work pass. There are actually quite a few different types of work passes which can be applied by foreign nationals working within Singapore and three of these work passes include a Work Permit, a S Pass and as well as the Employment Pass. The conditions for the application of these three work passes are different and some of these conditions may vary depending on the nationality of the applicant, the sector of the work, the nature of the work and as well as the basic salary.

For the employment pass, the employment pass is one of the common work passes used in Singapore and the employment pass is actually a general term used to classify some of the passes used to work within Singapore. In reality, the employment pass can actually be separated into three categories where these three different employment pass include the P Pass (including P1 and P2 Pass), the Q1 Pass and as well as the newly introduced pass which replaces the old Q2 Pass. The application requirements for these different passes are different and this solely depends on the circumstances of the applicant whether the applicant meets the requirements or otherwise. For the P Pass, the P Pass is meant for foreign nationals who hold recognized degrees, professional qualifications or specialist skills and also, these foreign nationals are seeking professional, administrative, executive or managerial jobs. In addition to that, the P Pass can actually be separated into two different categories which is the P1 Pass and as well as the P2 Pass. The difference between these two passes lies only within the basic salary where for the P1 Pass, it will only be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$7,000 whereas for the P2 Pass, it will only be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$3,500 and up to S$7,000. As for the Q1 Pass, it is designed for foreign nationals whose monthly basic salary is more than S$2,500 and in addition to that, they should possess recognized degrees, professional qualifications or specialist skills. For the S Pass, the S Pass is actually a newly introduced employment pass used to replace the previous Q2 Pass where for the S Pass, it is designed for foreign nationals whose monthly basic salary is at least S$1800 or more. However, there is one major difference for the S Pass when compared to the Q1 Pass or the P Pass where for the S Pass, the applicants will be assessed based on a point system where some of the assessment criteria include the salary, education qualifications, skills, job type and also work experiences.

For the application for these employment passes (P Pass, Q Pass and S Pass), some of the required documentations include a copy of duly completed Form 8 (Employment / S Pass Application Form) for each applicant (applicable to manual submission) where it is required that both the applicant and the employer/sponsor of the applicant must sign the form, a copy each of all the applicant's educational documents and past employment testimonials in the English language, a recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant taken within the last three months, a copy of the Travel Document page showing the applicant's personal details and lastly, a complete Personal Particulars Form for applicants who declare themselves to be born within Singapore. In addition to the required documentations, there are some other documents or approvals which are required for the application, depending on the type of employers or the job nature of the applicant. When completed, the application form for the employment pass can be submitted electronically or via the SingPost post office where an administrative fee of S$10 will be charged for each application submitted. As for the fees of the employment passes, the applicable fee will be S$30 per year for the passes and after each application is submitted, the processing time will be two weeks for applications submitted electronically and three weeks for applications submitted through SingPost post office.

In the application of an employment pass, aside from some of the general regulations or procedures which are mentioned above, there is also some other more detailed regulations or documentation which is essential for the application. It is best for both parties to first consult Ministry of Manpower in regards of the application for an employment pass.
