SilkAirAbout SilkAir
For low cost air travelling within the country of Singapore, there are quite a wide array of low cost carriers for the travelers to choose from, according to their own needs and travelling preferences. Some of these low cost carriers which are well known within Singapore include names such as Tiger Airways, Jetstar and as well as SilkAir.
For SilkAir, SilkAir is actually the subsidiary of the world renowned Singapore Airlines and just like the Singapore Airlines, SilkAir is also based in Singapore, using the country as an ideal transit hub. As a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir acts primarily as a regional wing of Singapore Airlines, expanding the flight destinations of Singapore Airlines particularly in the Asia region. Traces of SilkAir can be found back in the year 1975 when it was first established by Singapore Airlines to be involved in the development and wholesaling of holiday tours. Under rapid development throughout the years, SilkAir which was previously known as Tradewinds was renamed to SilkAir and this also marks the evolution of Tradewinds from a simple holiday tours wholesaler to a full fledge low cost carriers. Although SilkAir has a status of a low cost carrier, SilkAir continues to pride itself to be one of the low cost carriers within the region to be operating one of the youngest fleets where a collection of 13 aircrafts (8 Airbus A320 and 5 Airbus A319) are currently in operation.
Compared to other budget airlines around the region, SilkAir offers a larger choice of destinations around the world where these destinations include Cambodia (Phnom Penh and Siem Reap), China (Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen and Xiamen), India (Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram), Indonesia (Balikpapan, Lombok, Manado, Medan, Palembang, Solo and Surabaya), Malaysia (Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching), Myanmar (Yangon), Philippines (Cebu and Davao), Thailand (Chiangmai and Phuket), Vietnam (Danang) and of course, Singapore itself.
With the competition of low cost carrier getting stiffer as time goes by, SilkAir also operates an online booking system just like any other low cost carrier around the world. In order to book a flight with SilkAir, travelling can log onto the main homepage of SilkAir ( http://www.silkair.com/mbe/application/mbe ) where the tickets booking and as well as the payment can be easily made online, within the homepage itself.
