In the country of Singapore, although the country is not as large as its neighbouring country Malaysia, there is still quite a number of interesting scenic tourism attractions within the country. One of natural tourism attractions at Singapore is known as none other than Pulau Ubin. Pulau Ubin is actually a rather small island, around 10 square kilometres and the island is situated by the north east of Singapore, west to the Pulau Tekong. Although the independent island is rather populated during the 60s, there are only about a hundred villagers residing at the island today.
For a brief history of Pulau Ubin, the island has been known for its granite ever since the British founded the Singapore colonial. As British was actively developing Singapore, the granite quarries on the island was used as supplies for the construction industries and some of these constructions included the Horsburgh Lighthouse which was constructed backed at around the 1850s. On Pulau Ubin, many of the villages which have settled there since the early days were named after the first person who settled in the villages. Some of these names include the Kampung (village) Leman which as named after Leman and as well as the Kampung Cik Jawa which were named by a Singaporean named Jawa. Aside from granite quarrying, some of the main activities of Pulau Ubin during the early days were known to be farming and as well as fishing. Regardless, during the year 2005 when the neighbouring country Malaysia was stroke by avian flu, the Government of Singapore gave order to various farmers rearing poultry on Pulau Ubin to relocate all these poultries to the main island of Singapore so that the outbreak of avian flu can be put under strict observation and control by the government.
For the tourism aspect of Pulau Ubin, the island features a natural theme as until today, Pulau Ubin is known to be one of the lesser few areas which were exempted from the development of the country of Singapore. Although some bicycle tracks and as well as shelters were build across the island, Pulau Ubin is still generally free from the concrete filled structures. Within the island, various traditional villages with wooden houses and as well as wooden jetties can be found. For this reason, Pulau Ubin is known to be one of the popular locations for local and as well as international travellers to visit upon and in addition, Pulau Ubin is also one of the best choices for outdoor activities and summer camps. Aside from all these, one of the must visit locations at Pulau Ubin is none other than the Tanjung Chek Jawa. At Tanjung Chek Jawa, it is a coral reef formed around 5000 years ago and it is one of the most natural coral reefs found in Singapore. Around the coral reef, various marine wildlife such as sea squirts, octopuses, sand dollars and as well as cuttlefishes can be found roaming freely.
Pulau Ubin in the country of Singapore is indeed one of the many places any visitors should visit. With many interesting habitants, wildlife, historical villages, scenic views and fascinating geography, one need no other reasons in order to visit this interesting get away paradise.
